IT STARTED WITH A SHIRT
Lynmar Pickering USTA Team Raises
$1338 for Breast Cancer!
If you have ever been involved in
Team Tennis you will know how hard it is
to choose a team shirt or uniform that
pleases everyone. Carol Pickering’s team
faced just this dilemma. To make things
easier, they decided that everyone
should choose their own shirts but they
would go with a theme. The only
requirement was that some of the
proceeds of each shirt should benefit
the Breast Cancer Research.
As
captain, Carol then decided to take this
one step further and on the night they
were scheduled to play another Lynmar
team (captained by Pam Wenaas), they
would hold a fundraiser. Donations were
generously offered, including a tennis
lesson from Club Pro Jeanette Paddock, a
racquet stringing from Dave Lehman and
some beautiful artwork by Michele Dinan.
There were four Lynmar women’s 3.5
teams playing that night, two opposing
3.5 teams, and many spectators on
Thursday, June 26. Statistics say 1 in 9
women in America will be affected by
breast cancer. What a frightening
thought that 1-2 people on each of those
teams could be affected. The cause is
very close to many hearts.
The atmosphere of friendship and fun
at Lynmar that night was incredible; it
was just like the “old days”. This was
such a success that we hope to make it
an annual event. We held a prize drawing
for all the donations and raised $1,338
all of which has been forwarded to the
"Susan G Komen for the Cure Foundation".
Thank you Carol for organizing a
beautiful event to benefit a cause that
has touched us all personally in some
manner and thank you 3.5 women for being
part of the Lynmar family.
